> Sign PDF online free: draw, type or upload your signature, then add initials, a date and text to any page. No watermark, no sign-up and nothing is uploaded.

Draw, type or upload your signature, then place it — with your initials, the date and your name — on any page of a PDF. It's free with no watermark, and everything happens in your browser.

## How do I sign a PDF online for free?

Open Mergevanta's Sign PDF tool, add your PDF and press Create signature to draw, type or upload it. It appears on the page; drag it into position, add initials, the date or your name, then press Sign PDF. The signature is drawn into the file by your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

## Key facts

- **Price:** Free
- **Watermark:** None
- **Sign-up:** Not required
- **Accepts:** .pdf
- **You get:** The signed .pdf
- **Processing:** In your browser — files never leave your device
- **Files stored:** Never
- **Works on:** Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android

## Why use Mergevanta

- **Three ways to sign:** Draw with a mouse, finger or stylus, type your name in one of four handwriting styles, or upload a photo of your signature with the paper background removed.
- **Initials on every page:** Place your initials once and copy them to the same spot on every page in one tap — rotated pages included.
- **Private by default:** Your PDF and signature never leave your browser. Remembering your signature is off unless you turn it on, and Forget it clears it.
- **Date and name included:** Add today's date in the format you need and any text, such as your printed name, then drag them into place.

## How to use it

1. Press Choose PDF and open the document you need to sign.
2. Press Create signature and draw, type or upload it — it's placed on the current page.
3. Drag it into place and resize it from a corner; add initials, a date or your name the same way.
4. Press Add initials to every page if each page needs them.
5. Press Sign PDF, then Download.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is this a legally binding signature?

Sign PDF adds a visual electronic signature: an image of your signature drawn into the PDF. It isn't a certificate-based digital signature. Electronic signatures are widely accepted for many everyday documents, but rules differ, so check what your document requires.

### Is my signature saved anywhere?

Only if you choose. By default it exists only in the open tab. If you turn on Remember my signature on this device, it's kept in this browser's storage — never uploaded — until you press Forget it.

### Can I use a photo of my signature?

Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG and keep Remove white background switched on: the paper around your ink becomes transparent, so only the signature shows on the page.

### Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Signing runs entirely in your browser; the PDF is opened and saved on your device and isn't sent anywhere.

### Can I sign a PDF on my phone?

Yes. Draw your signature with your finger on the signing pad, then drag it into place on the page.

### What if the PDF has form fields?

You can sign over them, and turn on Lock the form after signing to draw the answers into the pages so they can't be changed later. To fill the fields in first, use [PDF forms](https://www.mergevanta.com/fill-pdf-forms).

### Can I sign a password-protected PDF?

Yes, after entering its password. The signed copy isn't password protected, so add a password again with [Protect PDF](https://www.mergevanta.com/protect-pdf) if it needs one.
